Kichigin's works are in collections all over the world. They should be considered in the context of the disutopian creations of Orwell, Bounouelle, G. Miller, Kafka, Platonov, Seadour, Bulghakov, and Kabakov, all of which incisively expose the erosion of values in societies.

His analytical-critical paintings are not intended to cure social ills, but they expose and confront society's hypocrisy and oppose the upheaval in society's values of civilised countries in the 20th century. The credo of the artist is this: "I'd like to pose a question through my works, because a proper question is much more valuable than a vague answer. I want to speak frankly to my audience. I don't want to avoid controversial themes. I wish I could be completely objective always."

Very often Kichigin applies to the images and symbols of his favourite artists, such as Vermeer; Velasquez, Bosch, Dali, and Klimpt. Appealing to the well-known "Blind Men" by Breugel, he executed a canvas called "The Game" in 1986. In it he speaks about the inevitable problems of a person living "blindly".

Kichigin is a brilliant portrait painter. Portraits of the people who are dear to him take a special place among his works. Portraits of artists such as A. N. Liberov, V. Brayneen, S. Sherstuke, and M. Takhtayev are considered to be a reflection of the complicated spiritual sphere of the modern personality suffering: from emotional, moral, and informational stresses.

In the catalogue of his exhibition in Omsk in 1991, he wrote: "Life, piercing the essence of the artist with its currents, dictates its themes and makes us participate in the theatre of action."

Since 1972 he regularly participates in Russian and foreign exhibitions. His works are in the State Tretyakov Gallery in (Moscow), The State Russian Museum (St. Petersburg), Omsk Art Museum (Omsk) and other museums in Russia, Ludwig Museum (Cologne, Germany),  the Museum of Modern Art  (Kiel, Germany) etc.   Please see  the reference list for a listing.
